Manifesto is centered in the village of MalPais. We highly recommend all participants stay in MalPais, and not in adjacent towns where commuting and distance seperates us. Given this however, there are many hotels, resorts, houses and campsites from Santa Teresa down to MalPais, for all budgets, so feel free to choose the one that suits you best. For Manifesto you can: Stay at a hotel or resort Book online, we have already reserved entire hotels, but they are filling up fast. These are recommended for Manifesto: Playa Selva Tree House(Tiffany is a good friend.) Gorgeous! Available 18th-24th Maui Pauls House in MalPais (Good friend) Gorgeous Views! Available 17th-24th - $300 for the week 2 bedrooms. Contact Manifesto Staff on this one. Pachamama(2-3 in a room) Maluca del Mar Cabinas (owned by Pachamama) right across the road from Moana Lodge. (7 simple cabins in ($35 + taxes per night) for up to 4 people each) The Place(2-4 in a room) La Hacienda(2-3 in a room) On the high end - Casa Chamelion($200 for a cabina) Rent a house Book online, fill them up with 6 or more people (just dont tell them :)), most houses in MalPais are available for rent (mention Manifesto). Elena Beach House($1000 a week sleeps 7) Bosque Mar rental house($500 a week sleeps 4) Beachfront Point House($1500 sleeps 8) The Beach Yurt($500 a week sleeps 4) Camping There are several public campsites on the beach in MalPais/Santa Teresa - just bring a tent. We are also offering free camping on our private land (2 locations), for the true Manifesto spirit,(bare bones jungle fever camping!) on the OtraVista farm, about 10 minutes from MalPais beachfront. However, like Burning Man, you will need to purchase your own water and food, which is easily found in town. Another option is to camp in the lawn or beach of a friends rental house. General accomodation websites - take a look and see www.malpais.net www.nicoyapeninsula.com/malpais/ www.malpais-beach-rentals.com/ http://www.malpais.net/ Transportation whilst here The road conditions are rough and can only take a 4x4 vehicle or a quad reliably. When renting a car please make sure it is 4x4 or you could get stuck. 4 wheel Quads/ATVs/motorcycles are available. A quad can hold 2 people and are ideal for the time here. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Quads can be pricey in season ($50-$70 per day), because they cater to tourists, but will make your trip worthwhile, if you are safe. You do not need to make a quad reservation until arrival, as there are several places that rent quads all over town. Regular motorcycles are also available to rent for way less. Passports are required for rental. ![]() Recommended approach: Groups rent a 4x4 from Budget in town for the collective, and one or two quads to share. We recommend you make the rental reservation in advance. If you are flying into the Tambor airport, you can also pick up a Budget car there or be picked up in it, then drive yourself to MalPais. Budget link: Budget Costa Rica (MalPais is the town!) Hitch hiking is a common form of transportation - but dont rely on a speedy lift. If camping - ensure you have a 4x4 or quad to get to and from the camp site. Bicycles are available for rent, but dusty and congested roads make it all but impossible to navigate safely. Surfing Surf board and surf lessons are available for most hotels and in town. ($5/day board, $20 a lesson) | |||
